When I was young and delusional and before I knew about the efficient markets hypothesis, I used to use the criterion (# of message board posts)/(mkt cap) to pick stocks, if it wasn't low I wasn't interested in the stock, and I have to say, that one was that seemed to work out okay overall (anecdotal).
