From some feedback I received on my post on NON or NEE, it may not be completely clear: I would have voted YES to the European Constitution, for two reasons:
- As born Austrian you get educated over the time that if you feel oblidged to partizipate in democratic elections, you never have the choice to vote for the best choice, only for the least worse. In this case it was the choice between the less flawed draft constitution and the seriously flawed Nice treaty.
- I do not want to be seen anywhere near the camps of the core opponents, being a weird and dangerous melange of far-right (xenophobists) and far-left (antiglobalists), the unions and the useful idiots. Both left and right wings are known to be anti-democratic by history.

When the far left and far right agree, it's rarely a good thing: trade quotas and centralized control are two things I can think they both like. But I figure this will be no less difficult than the creation of Germany, or of Italy, or even the United States. In the limit, there will be one Europe, but we will all be long dead by then.

Yes to Europe, no to the constitution
1. The Nice treaty is flawed. However, the EU constitution proposal multiplies these flaws. It's a bianco cheque for power to the most powerful lobbying group in Brussells: the bureaucracy.2. The fact that both José Bové and Le Pen (and extremist idiots of all kinds) are against it, forms no logical basis to conclude that the constitution is good. This is a manipulative, not a logical argument.
3. If it were true and granted that the Brussells centre is smarter and more enlightened that national governments, nobody would be more convinced Eurofederalist than myself. In fact, I believe that competition of nation states is more efficient system than the EU.
4. If for nothing else, manipulative arguments by euroenthusiasts have been so foul and sinister that I would vote NO (if I had the chance) just for the sake of protest against psychological manipulation.

I bet that almost all of the opponents of the European constitution haven't read those few pages. The same applies to the NO promoters ...
