In "George Dantzig dies at 90" (May 18th), I said that Mr. Dantzig got his master's degree from Jerzy Neyman at the University of Michigan since he solved two famous unsolved problems in statistics which he assumed had been assigned for homework. This occurred at Berkeley, not Michigan. It occurred when Dantzig went back to work on his PhD. Neyman did not teach at Michigan, and did not come to the US (Berkeley) until 1938. Apologies to the University of California at Berkeley.
